Discover Belém

and visit the National Coach Museum!

Belém is a must‐see location for visitors and tourists looking to discover Lisbon’s ancient foundations.

Here, where the Tagus River meets the Atlantic Ocean, was also the beginning local to meet several other cultures since it was from Belem that the first major Navigators such as Vasco da Gama set sail to the new world.

The tour begins in Praça Afonso de Albuquerque, named in honor of the important Portuguese figure in the Orient in the 16th century. Here you can find the Palácio de Belém, the current residency for the President and the Coach Museum, a not-to-miss location since it is a symbol of the Portuguese Empire since the previously mentioned century.

Following on, the next remarkable sight on our itinerary will be the Jeronimos Monastery, a beautiful building dedicated to Santa Maria de Belém and a proudly classified World Heritage site by International organization UNESCO.

A very significant characteristic of this Monastery to admire is its unique Manueline architecture style and its church. You will be able to visit the church area and admire the beautiful artistry. From this location, we will learn about the emblematic bakery that produces the Portuguese Pastel de Belém, it is a well-known store that detains the oldest secret recipe for “Pasteis de Nata”.

As we stroll along the tranquil banks of the Tagus River you can expect to see such incredible monumental statues, the Belém Tower and the Prestigious Padrão dos Descobrimentos translated as the Monument to The Discoveries, that stands as a proud symbol of Portuguese Geographical Discoveries.

Within this district, the tour will conclude in the beautiful gardens of Praça do Império spread out wide and offer as a relaxing environment for people to gather, eat, and bask in the sun, alternatively we can advise you on further exploration or the nearest public transport services to your next destination.
