South of Lisbon

The other side of the river

After crossing the Tagus River by Ferry, we propose a walking tour facing Lisbon.

A long “Cais do Ginjal”, in a 20-minute tour, we will cross by archaeological remains, where, during a great part of the XX century worked some cannery and cooperage factories, along other activities connected with the see and fishing.

After visiting the old headquarters of “Companhia Portuguesa de Pescas”, today the Naval Museum, we ride the panoramic elevator of “Jardim da Fonte da Pipa” that will drive us to the heart of the old Almada.

Here it stands out “Casa da Cerca”, a small palace from the scentury XVll, recovered and today a Center of Contemporary Art.

Still in old Almada, we will visit the garden near the military fort, the church of São Tiago and the Medieval Museum built around an important archaeological core.

Always with Lisbon in the horizon, we will come back through the old Calçada da Pedreira, to Cacilhas.

Before embarking again to Lisbon we will still have the opportunity to visit church of “Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso”, patroness of navigators and to admire the frigate “Dom Fernando ll e Glória”, the last fully sailing frigate of the Portuguese Navy.
